چکیده
Melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) plays an essential role in abiotic stress plants, but its mechanism drought tolerance is unclear. To better understand the protective roles of melatonin against stress, we investigated effect foliar application with exogenous on plant growth, physiological responses, and antioxidant enzyme activities rice seedlings under stress. Rice were grown for 21 days, sprayed 0, 50, 100, 200, 300 µM melatonin. The control was watered daily, while others subjected to by withholding water seven days. results showed that significantly reduced relative content, chlorophyll content. Electrolyte leakage, malondialdehyde (MDA) content hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) also negatively affected Application alleviated effects increasing improving decreasing electrolyte MDA, H2O2. Foliar increased activities, including superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), guaiacol (GPX). In addition, enhanced proline total soluble sugar accumulation during It is, therefore, suggested 100 most effective reducing adverse plants.

Effect of Foliar Application of Phytoprotectants on Yield of Rice (Oryza sativa Cv. Shiroudi) under Drought Stress
Drought is one of the most important factors limiting crop yield and foliar application of phytoprotectants is an important management strategy for increasing crop resistance to drought stress. This research was conducted at Rice Research Station of Tonekabon, Iran, in 2018 by using a split-plot based on a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replicates. Main plots were irrigation...
متن کاملEnhanced expression of alternative oxidase genes is involved in the tolerance of rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings to drought stress.
Drought stress significantly enhanced the capacity of the alternative respiratory pathway and induced AOX1a and AOX1b transcripts in rice seedling leaves. The drought-stressed seedlings pretreated with the inhibitor of the alternative respiratory pathway, 1 mM salicylhydroxamic acid, had a lower level of relative water content than the seedlings either subjected to drought or salicylhydroxamic ...
متن کاملAlleviatory effects of silicon on the foliar micromorphology and anatomy of rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings under simulated acid rain
Silicon (Si) is a macroelement in plants. The biological effects and mitigation mechanisms of silicon under environmental stress have become hot topics. The main objectives of this study were to elucidate the roles of Si in alleviating the effects on the phenotype, micromorphology and anatomy of the leaves of rice seedlings under acid rain stress. The results indicated that the combined or sing...
متن کاملIdentification of stress-responsive genes in an indica rice (Oryza sativa L.) using ESTs generated from drought-stressed seedlings.
The impacts of drought on plant growth and development limit cereal crop production worldwide. Rice (Oryza sativa) productivity and production is severely affected due to recurrent droughts in almost all agroecological zones. With the advent of molecular and genomic technologies, emphasis is now placed on understanding the mechanisms of genetic control of the drought-stress response. In order t...
متن کاملInvolvement of Secondary Metabolites in Response to Drought Stress of Rice (Oryza sativa L.)
In this study, responses of rice under drought stress correlating with changes in chemical compositions were examined. Among 20 studied rice cultivars, Q8 was the most tolerant, whereas Q2 was the most susceptible to drought. Total phenols, total flavonoids, and antioxidant activities, and their accumulation in water deficit conditions were proportional to drought resistance levels of rice. In ...
